It is quite possible to buy a used SUV with a budget of up to 300 thousand rubles. And it will not necessarily be a Russian-made car. Their main advantage is a reliable transmission and engine, which is ideal for Russian road conditions. That is why such machines should also be considered for purchase with a small budget.
Domestic cars
The largest selection of SUVs worth up to 300 thousand rubles among domestic cars in the used category. They are not the best in terms of reliability, but they have several indisputable advantages:
- Cheap to maintain.
- Easy to find accessories. Moreover, both original and from third-party manufacturers.
- They have excellent cross-country ability. It is not worth judging about the high speed of movement, but the torque of domestic SUVs is optimized for the maximum development of pulling force in the shortest period of time. Therefore, when driving off-road, they can give odds even to the LandCruiser.
And these cars are some of the cheapest. And used SUVs up to 300 thousand rubles will be in excellent technical condition (in 95% of cases after overhaul of both the engine and the body).
LADA Niva
They have been produced for over 40 years. But the model has not lost its relevance to this day, it is in great demand in the secondary market. Key advantages of the model:
- high ground clearance (220 mm);
- really high cross-country ability due to symmetrical all-wheel drive, transfer case blocking and the presence of low gears, which is complemented by the relatively low total weight of the car;
- versatility - suitable for city trips, and as a working car, and for going hunting.
But there are also disadvantages. First, the reliability of the Niva leaves much to be desired. And secondly, the car has a load-bearing body, for which corrosion is much more dangerous than for frame SUVs. So this car needs to be constantly looked after, but even in this case, after 10-15 years, the body will have to be welded.
TagAZ Tager
One of the most controversial SUVs with a range of 300,000 rubles. It is inferior to the Niva in terms of technical characteristics and cross-country ability, but, as practice has shown, the car is more reliable. Also available in configurations with 4-cylinder in-line and 6-cylinder V-like engine. For some time, they were still produced with diesel turbocharged engines, but it is difficult to find them on sale - they are sold out quickly.
The car was produced until 2014. And at the beginning of 2021, there are rumors that they plan to resume it under another concern. On the used car market it costs from 250 to 350 thousand rubles.
Foreign SUVs
It is difficult to choose something really worth 300 thousand rubles among foreign SUVs. And you need to understand that these will be cars produced in 2000-2010. But even before domestic ones, they have more economical and reliable engines, and they also have problems with the body.
Hyundai santa fe
Often there are ads where you can buy a 2003-2008 Santa Fe (compact SUV) for less than 300 thousand rubles. They are also collected in Taganrog (TagAZ). There are two versions of the petrol engine (both with automatic transmission), as well as a 4-cylinder diesel engine (with manual transmission). By the way, the basic configuration includes a multimedia system and an extended security system (with side airbags).

Full frame SUV based on Isuzu Axiom. Reliable, but for budget repairs, low-quality components are often installed. Therefore, before buying, you should clarify whether major maintenance was carried out and what exactly was replaced in this case.
Otherwise, it is no worse than the old Mercedes S-class, but in a more modern way. Sell at a price of 250 thousand rubles (2 liter gasoline engine, manual transmission 4x4).
Renault Duster
The French have turned out to be an excellent competitor for the Mitsubishi Pajero, but in a more budgetary segment. No rating is complete without the inclusion of this model. Dusters turned out to be inexpensive to maintain, with economical fuel consumption (from 6.2 liters per 100 kilometers). Car enthusiasts recommend buying with a 2-liter gasoline engine and manual transmission - this is the most reliable option.
Total: it is possible to find an acceptable used SUV cheaper than a new passenger car VAZ. But the choice should be taken seriously, as the ad sites are inundated with offers of outright "trash" in this price category. That is, you need to be prepared for the fact that you will have to revise 15-20 options and select the appropriate one from them.
