The BMW X4 is a premium all-wheel drive mid-size crossover that combines the features of the Bavarian brand “X-family”, a stylish coupe-like appearance, a luxurious interior and a driver's character on the road ...

The portrait of the five-door audience looks like this (at least, the automaker itself thinks so) - these are, first of all, married men with one or more children who practice an active lifestyle (moreover, the "X-fourth" is not the only car in their family) ...

The second generation BMW X4 with the in-plant marking "G02" appeared before the global audience in mid-February 2018 during an online presentation, and already at the beginning of next month it celebrated its full-fledged debut on the catwalks of the International Geneva Motor Show.

Compared to the outgoing generation model, the crossover has not only matured and acquired a different posture, but in general has made a clear step forward in all respects: it tried on an improved interior, received several exterior design options, "armed" with modern modular engines and lost half a centner.

The "second" BMW X4 flaunts beautiful, modern, fast-paced and elegant lines, which, although not mesmerizing, catch the eye instantly.

The front view of the car is energetic, aggressive and one hundred percent recognizable - the predatory "squint" of LED headlights, a relief hood, "family nostrils" of the radiator grille and a sculpted bumper with a "mouth" of the air intake.

The main feature of the SUV is a dynamic and balanced silhouette with a long hood and a sloping roofline that turns into a short tail of the trunk, to which the “muscular” wheel arches of a rounded-square shape and expressive “splashes” on the sidewalls add a bit of monumentality.

From the stern, the five-door attracts attention with refined narrow lanterns with a three-dimensional effect and a sculpted bumper, along the edges of which there are two "curly" exhaust pipes.

It should be noted that three levels of exterior design are offered for the "X-fourth": "off-road" xLine (default), "sporty" M Sport and "combined" M Sport X (includes features of the previous two solutions). A couple of the latest versions boast a more developed front bumper with designer "fangs" and swollen air intakes.

In terms of its dimensions, the second generation BMW X4 corresponds to the mid-size class: it is 4752 mm long, 1918 mm wide, and 1621 mm high. The gap between the wheelsets of the front and rear axles of the car is 2864 mm, and its ground clearance is 204 mm.

The curb weight of the five-door ranges from 1720 to 1895 kg (depending on the modification).

The interior of the coupe-like crossover looks beautiful, noble, "thoroughbred" and modern, and also features impeccable ergonomics and the highest quality workmanship.

In the driver's field of vision are a three-spoke multi-steering wheel with a raised rim and a fully "drawn" instrument cluster with a widescreen display, and on the right side of it there is a solid center console with a protruding 10.25-inch screen of the iDrive multimedia complex and exemplary audio and climate control units. installation.

In the cabin of the "second" BMW X4, five seats are organized, and even in the second row, three adults can sit without any problems (however, the protruding floor tunnel will give the person sitting in the middle a little discomfort).

Front riders fall into the arms of ergonomically profiled seats with embossed sidewalls, optimal filling density and a large number of electrical adjustments.

Despite the "coupe-like body", the crossover has a roomy trunk of the correct shape, which in a standard state is capable of absorbing 525 liters of luggage. The backrest of the rear sofa is "sawn" into three sections in a ratio of 40:20:40 and folds flush with the floor, increasing the storage space to 1430 liters.

On the Russian market, the second generation BMW X4 is offered in four modifications, each of which is equipped with an 8-band Steptronic hydromechanical automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive technology with a multi-plate clutch that supplies traction to the front wheels:

  • Under the hood of the basic version xDrive 20i hides a 2.0-liter gasoline "four" with a turbocharger, a direct "power supply" system, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and adjustable valve timing, developing 184 horsepower at 5000-6500 rpm and 290 Nm of torque at 1350-4250 rpm.
  • The next petrol version in the hierarchy xDrive 30i is driven by the same engine, but "pumped" to 249 hp. at 5200-6500 rpm and 350 Nm peak potential at 1450-4800 rpm.
  • Execution xDrive M40i boasts a six-cylinder 3.0-liter unit with in-line architecture, two turbochargers, 24-valve timing, direct fuel injection and variable valve timing, which produces 360 hp. at 5500-6500 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 1520-4800 rpm.
  • The diesel modification closes the power range xDrive 20d - it has a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, 16-valve timing structure and accumulator fuel injection, generating 190 hp at 4000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 1750-2500 rpm.

From a place to the "first hundred" on the speedometer, this off-road vehicle accelerates after 4.8-8.3 seconds, and reaches a maximum of 213-250 km / h.

Gasoline cars “digest” 7.8-9.2 liters of fuel for every 100 km of track in combined mode, and diesel cars - about 5.4 liters.

The BMW X4 with the in-plant index "G02" is based on a modular CLAR bogie with a longitudinally oriented power plant, and its body largely consists of high-strength steel and aluminum.

On both axles of the crossover, independent suspensions are used: in the front part there is a double lever, in the rear there is a multi-link (both there and there - with anti-roll bars).

The car is equipped with a rack and pinion steering system and an active electric booster, as well as disc brakes "in a circle" (front - with ventilation) with ABS, EBD and other "gadgets".

As for the M-versions of the mid-size SUV, they additionally have a limited-slip rear differential, more efficient brakes, a menacingly growling exhaust system and an adaptive suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers.

In Russia, the second generation BMW X4 can be purchased at a price of 3 350 000 rubles - this is how much dealers ask in 2018 for the basic version of the xDrive 20i.

  • Normally, the car "flaunts": six airbags, LED headlights and lanterns, heated front seats, contoured interior lighting, dual-zone "climate", electric drive of the fifth door, front and rear parking sensors, multimedia system, 18-inch wheels, high-quality audio system, ABS, ESP and other equipment.

The xDrive 20d modification is offered at a price of 3,460,000 rubles, the xDrive 30i - from 3,680,000 rubles, and the M40i - from 4,990,000 rubles.

  • The "top" car has in its arsenal: three-zone climate control, 20-inch "rollers" with different-sized tires, adaptive suspension, electronically controlled rear differential, Business navigation system and other bells and whistles.
