For untrained drivers, the beginning of winter often turns into a "tinsmith's day", and in order to avoid this "holiday", you need to know about the peculiarities of winter driving of cars with different types of drive, because the safety of the driver, passengers and other road users depends on it.

But if the overwhelming majority of Russians dealt with front-wheel drive "iron horses", then not everyone will be able to cope with rear-wheel drive cars (not equipped with modern electronic control systems) - their behavior on a slippery road is fundamentally different, therefore, the actions taken to prevent dangerous situations completely different.

Many car owners associate rear-wheel drive cars with the VAZ "classics", which, because of the light stern, loved to turn it around, especially on ice, but foreign manufacturers offer a large number of such models with ideal weight distribution along the axes, a bunch of electronic "assistants" and , accordingly, more predictable behavior on the road.

When driving on an icy or snowy road, rear-wheel drive requires special vigilance, because such cars "suffer" from oversteer, which is why they easily slip into a skid even with the most innocuous action. Excessive steering movements, attempts at sudden acceleration or emergency braking are almost one hundred percent falling into a skid, which will be quite difficult for an inexperienced driver to cope with.

The basic rule for owners of rear-wheel drive vehicles is the optimal driving speed.
But if it was not possible to keep the situation under control and the "iron horse" started to skid, then the situation can be corrected as follows - release the gas pedal, reducing the tractive force on the driving axle, and turn the steering wheel in the direction of sliding. In this case, you should not resort to braking, and on cars with a manual transmission, you should also squeeze the clutch. It is necessary to wield the steering wheel smoothly and not excessively, so as not to turn the car in the opposite direction.

If there is a feeling that the car is slipping, then it is best to pre-empt the skid by provoking it artificially, thereby taking the situation completely into our own hands. If it was not possible to perform this action, then the started sliding can be stopped by a sharp turn of the steering wheel towards the skid and back, at the same time dropping the accelerator.
It is necessary to return the "steering wheel" to its initial position immediately so that the car does not "change position" and "does not start dancing" on the other side.

The winter period of time is the most difficult for drivers, and in order to protect yourself, your relatives, and simply the people around you from danger, you should follow the traffic rules and not make sharp maneuvers on slippery surfaces.
