The first generation Fiat Scudo Combi cargo-passenger model celebrated its official debut in 1995, after which it was put into commercial production at the facilities of the SEVEL joint venture in France.

In 2004, this car (along with the cargo version) underwent restyling - changes affected the exterior, interior decoration and power range.

The minivan continued its "life cycle" until 2007, when it gave way to its successor.

"Skudo" of the first generation is available in several versions - with a standard or extended wheelbase. The total length of the "Italian" varies from 4440 to 4922 mm, and the distance between the front and rear axles is from 2824 to 3224 mm. The width of the car is 1810 mm and its height is 1940 mm.

The curb weight of a single-volume vehicle is from 1395 to 1480 kg, while its carrying capacity does not exceed 770-930 kg (taking into account the weight of riders, the number of which can reach seven).

Under the hood of the "first" Fiat Scudo Cargo there are two petrol and three diesel "hearts" to choose from (depending on the modification):

  • Among the first are atmospheric "fours" for 1.6-2.0 liters with an in-line arrangement, distributed fuel supply and 8 or 16 valves, producing 80-136 "horses" and 128-190 Nm of rotational potential.
  • The latter include the 1.9-2.0 liter four-cylinder units equipped with direct injection and turbocharging, which generate 69-109 horsepower and 120-250 Nm of torque.

All motors are mated exclusively to a "manual" transmission for five gears and drive wheels of the front axle.

At the heart of the Fiat Scudo Cargo is a front-wheel drive platform on which the power plant is transversely based. At the front, the car uses an independent layout with McPherson struts and a transverse stabilizer, and at the rear - a semi-independent suspension with a torsion beam, hydraulic shock absorbers and Panhard rod.
The minivan uses a rack and pinion steering mechanism with a hydraulic power steering and disc brakes "in a circle" (with ventilation at the front) with ABS.

The first incarnation of the Skudo cargo-passenger vehicle is distinguished by its reliable design, spacious interior and cargo compartment, good driving performance, affordable service, decent build quality and good equipment.
But it also has negative qualities: high fuel "appetite", weak dynamic characteristics and a large turning radius.
