Reviews, comparisons & tips for motorists

As you know, each city in Russia has its own statistics on car theft. And Peter was no exception. At the same time, the preferences of the St. Petersburg hijackers, like everyone else, can change every year. In this article, we present a rating of the most stolen cars in St. Petersburg for 2020-2021.

It is interesting that, unlike other Russian cities, Lada Priora, which is in the lead in many localities of the country in terms of the number of thefts, did not make it to this top. But in St. Petersburg, this car is not popular with car owners. Here, the bandits prefer more budgetary and not only foreign cars. Therefore, the list of the most stolen cars looks like this:

  1. Ford Focus. This car is stolen in any body type and in almost any condition. At the same time, cars, both Russian and American or European, fall into the risk group.
  2. Hyundai Solaris. It is not surprising that this South Korean state employee, assembled in Russia, also got into the most stolen cars in St. Petersburg in 2020-2021. The car is popular with criminals, regardless of the year of manufacture, body type and condition.
  3. Kia Rio. This car has been stolen for resale and dismantling in many cities of the country over the past few years. It attracts the attention of attackers in almost any state.
  4. Renault Duster. Surprisingly, this inexpensive crossover of a famous French brand and domestic assembly got into the most stolen cars in the Leningrad region and St. Petersburg. Indeed, in the country as a whole, this car turned out to be unattractive for hijackers.
  5. Renault Logan. Unlike other cities, this budget sedan is actively hijacked here, despite its poor equipment and somewhat outdated simple design. It is noteworthy that even the owners of cars in the simplest configurations are at risk.
  6. Mazda CX-5. Released in 2012, the Japanese crossover turned out to be vulnerable to criminals from St. Petersburg. They managed to learn how to open a rather technically complex and well-equipped car, which is then resold or disassembled for spare parts.
  7. Toyota Camry. Toyota in all regions of Russia entered the top leaders in theft. And in the northern capital, this model became the most attractive for bandits. This trend has continued for several years.
  8. Renault Sandero. The budget hatchback is notable for its good equipment, reliability and safety. It is not surprising that it is in demand in the secondary market, and therefore is actively interested in car thieves.
  9. Kia Sportage. Unlike other regions, this crossover from South Korea was also among the most vulnerable in St. Petersburg. The car is stolen for further resale in whole or for parts.
  10. Toyota RAV4. In recent years, the crossover of the famous Japanese brand is often among the most hijacked in many Russian regions and in the country as a whole. This is due to its sufficient popularity among Russians.

The most unstoppable cars in St. Petersburg

Surprisingly, in St. Petersburg, almost no Lada cars are stolen, which are at risk in most domestic settlements. Perhaps this is due to the fact that a large proportion of cars stolen in St. Petersburg do not leave the region. And here AvtoVAZ products are not in significant demand. This applies even to the brand's latest and most sought-after models.

Also, the owners of Chinese cars are practically not at risk. Daewoo, Fiat, Seat or Peugeot cars are hardly stolen either. There is little likelihood of missing Nissan, Mitsubishi and Honda. As elsewhere, UAZ and GAZ bandits do not attract the attention of bandits. And premium cars in St. Petersburg disappear almost the same way as elsewhere. But in general, absolutely any car can be stolen. Therefore, every car owner should take care of reliable protection against theft and burglary.

Now you know which cars are most often stolen in St. Petersburg in 2020-2021. Is your car not on this list? How do you protect your car from theft?
