FAW Besturn B30 is a front-wheel drive budget sedan, an "overgrown" of the C-class by European standards (since it can easily be attributed to the "D" segment in terms of size), which combines an expressive design, a roomy interior and a good level of equipment, but really archaic technical "stuffing" ... The target audience of the four-door is economical representatives of the so-called "middle class" (first of all, family men), who want to get "a lot of cars - for relatively little money" and are not ready to overpay for the brand ...

The world premiere of the serial FAW Besturn B30 sedan took place in September 2015 at the Chengdu International Auto Show, but its conceptual forerunner called the FAW Besturn A-Class was first presented back in April of the same year at the Beijing Auto Show, and its development was completely started in 2013.

The car, built on the Volkswagen Jetta platform of the sixth generation, received a really well-designed exterior and interior, but at the same time it was "armed" with a low-power (especially adjusted for dimensions) engine that has no alternative.

Externally FAW Besturn B30 looks pretty, expressive and harmonious - without exaggeration, but the design of the three-volume deserves mostly positive ratings. The rather solid "physiognomy" of the car is decorated with frowning complex headlights, to which the hexagonal "shield" of the radiator grille with four chrome ribs and the embossed bumper adjoin closely, but its stern against the background of the front end is perceived as something simple - slanted lights, a trunk lid with stamping under the number yes "chubby" bumper with a protective strip at the bottom.

In profile, this is a typical C-class sedan with a long sloping bonnet, a smoothly sloping roofline, a distinct "outgrowth" of the luggage compartment and correct cutouts of the wheel arches, a bit of originality which is given by striking embossings on the sides.

Dimensions and weight

In general, FAW Besturn B30 is considered a representative of the "golf" segment according to the European classification, but in terms of dimensions it is quite suitable for the D-class: length - 4625 mm, width - 1790 mm, height - 1500 mm. The distance between the front and rear axles is 2630 mm for the car, and its ground clearance is 160 mm.

The curb weight of the four-door varies from 1230 to 1270 kg, depending on the modification.

Interior

Inside, the FAW Besturn B30 cannot boast of something special - everything is simple and concise here, without any design delights. A large three-spoke multi-steering wheel with a rim slightly flattened at the bottom, an unpretentious instrument cluster with two analogue scales and a monochrome "window" of the on-board computer between them, an archaic center console with a 7-inch touchscreen of the media center, a pair of ventilation deflectors and a clear "microclimate" block - visually the interior is completely corresponds to the "budget essence" of the car.

In the front of the cabin, the Chinese sedan has quite ordinary seats with unobtrusive lateral support and normal adjustment intervals (from the driver's side - including in height).

Inhabitants of the second row are offered a comfortable sofa and a sufficient supply of free space (although the protruding tunnel will still give the third rider some discomfort), but there are no additional conveniences here.

The trunk of a four-door has a characteristic shape with protruding wheel arches inward and can hold up to 480 liters of luggage. The back of the rear sofa folds down in one piece, not forming a flat floor, but opening an opening for transporting long items. By default, the car is equipped with a full-size spare wheel and the necessary tools, stowed underground.

Specifications

Under the hood, the FAW Besturn B30 contains a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol "aspirated" with an in-line arrangement, a distributed injection system, variable valve timing and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, producing 109 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 155 Nm of torque at 3800 rpm.

As standard, the engine is combined with a 5-speed "manual" gearbox and drive wheels of the front axle, but as an option it can be docked with a 6-range hydromechanical "automatic" Aisin.

From a standstill to 100 km / h, the car accelerates in less than 12 seconds, its maximum speed is 175 km / h, and the fuel “appetite” varies from 6.4 to 6.7 liters for each “hundred” of mileage in the combined driving mode.

Design features

At the heart of the FAW Besturn B30 is the "front-wheel drive" PQ32 platform with a transverse engine, borrowed from the sixth generation Volkswagen Jetta. On the front axle of the sedan, an independent suspension of the MacPherson type with anti-roll bars is used, and on the rear there is a semi-independent structure with a torsion bar.

By default, the car is equipped with a rack and pinion type electric power steering, and disc brakes (ventilated at the front) are installed on all its wheels, supplemented by ABS, EBD and other electronic assistants.

Options and prices

Sales of FAW Besturn B30 in the Russian market should start in the near future, but, most likely, this will happen only at the beginning of 2020. In our country, for a four-door with "mechanics" they will ask for a minimum of 549,000 rubles - this is the price indicated on the official website of the company, but taking into account the "asterisk" next to the amount, it can be assumed that the real price tag without the "program benefits" will be higher than thousands for 100-150.

The car has: front airbags, electric and heated side mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, four power windows, ABS, EBD, BAS, ESP, air conditioning, a media center with a 7-inch screen, a four-speaker audio system and some other options.
