Reviews, comparisons & tips for motorists

When you first learn about a Transcend DVR, you might think - Wow, it’s unexpected. It turns out that they are engaged not only in flash drives and memory cards. On occasion, their products are bought without doubt and special thought. This brand has established itself as a reliable manufacturer of quality products in the world of storage devices. Below you can read an overview of the Transcend DrivePro 550 dashcam.

The Transcend DrivePro 550 is not your typical car dashboard. Here, the presence of a second camera will immediately strike you. The rotary mechanism of the secondary camera allows you to independently determine the direction of the shooting. Logically, here you can choose two main directions and the third duplicating the main camera. It makes no sense to double the second camera as the first one, because the main camera has better characteristics in comparison with the PTZ one. The main camera shoots at a resolution of 1920 × 1080, has an angle of view of 160 ° and is equipped with a Sony matrix, while the auxiliary camera is in 1280 × 720 with an angle of view of 110 °. It is logical to assume that a PTZ camera is intended for other situations or events.

By turning the camera to the left, you can configure it to shoot events to the left of the car. Also, this position will take pictures of people, for example, traffic police officers, when your car stops. If the vehicle is used in a taxi, public transport, delivery services, then the DVR will be designed to control drivers. In this case, the camera position will be set back to the passenger compartment.

It should be noted that the PTZ camera has 4 infrared sensors that allow you to record events even in complete darkness. They turn on and off automatically and light up red during operation.

Transcend DrivePro 550 Specifications

The package includes the recorder itself, a suction mount, a 10 Class 32 GB memory card, a car adapter with a cable length of 4 meters, and several instruction brochures.

The suction cup of the recorder holder has a diameter of only 45 mm and an interesting locking mechanism. It turns out that you can also come up with something new here. The twisting locking clamping mechanism allows you to install the recorder in the desired position.

The length of the adapter allows you to make hidden wiring from the on-board network to the micro-USB connector of the device. But not everyone will do it. And here such a long length will be, on the contrary, unnecessary. Why do all manufacturers make the power connector so that the wire hangs in an uncomfortable position for it? It would be better if the wire left the recorder and went down immediately. And here it turns out that he goes up and then hangs as necessary, falls down.

The recorder itself has a plastic case, and is very tightly knit. No backlashes or creaks were noticed.

The recorder has 4 mechanical buttons that "look" at the driver. The 2.4 ”display is located above the control buttons, which is logical and convenient. The emergency recording button is somewhat hidden. It is located at the bottom and has a red color.

You can receive video recordings from the DVR without removing either the device itself or the memory card. This can be done using the Wi-Fi link generated by the Transcend DrivePro 550 with a range of 100 meters. You can also change the settings of the recorder via Wi-Fi.

You can work with recordings using the manufacturer's DrivePro Toolbox software or their iOS and Android mobile apps.

The built-in battery allows you to record the environment for another 15 minutes. The DVR has a motion response function, like a security alarm mode. But here you will need an external power source. The software allows you to monitor the traffic situation. Warn you about leaving your lane, approaching the driving car in front.

The DrivePro 550 has a built-in GPS receiver and Glonass. You can choose what to use.

Conclusion

What does a regular driver need from a registrar? So that he performs his functions without attention to himself. To turn on by itself, make records of everything that happens, if there was an emergency, then he would register it in the non-rewritable area of the memory card, so that when the machine ends, it would turn off itself, be reliable and simple. All this is present in the Transcend DrivePro 550. It is light, easy to operate, does not require any maintenance, you do not need to pull out the memory card, hang it up and forget it. Given the second camera, the recorder will be very useful for use in taxis, minibuses, delivery services, buses.
