The Mercedes-Benz SLC-class is a premium rear-wheel drive compact roadster with a folding hard top, which is addressed to young and energetic people who want not only to stand out from the crowd, but also to enjoy driving and driving with an open top ...

It boasts an expressive design, excellent driving characteristics and a decent level of comfort ...

The world premiere of Mercedes-Benz SLC with the in-plant code R172 took place in mid-December 2015, and its full-scale display was held in January 2016 at the stands of the International Auto Show in Detroit.

The car, formerly called "SLK" and was born as a result of the internal reform of the designations of the German brand, did not change much in comparison with the "pre-reform" version externally, but at the same time it underwent interesting metamorphoses inside: it received new engines, a modified mechanism for folding the hard roof and extended list of available options.

And the exterior of the Mercedes-Benz SLC is in complete order - the roadster "flaunts" an attractive, noble and energetic look, thanks to which it will definitely not be left without attention in the city traffic.

A pompous front end with an aggressive look of headlights and a "diamond grille" of a radiator, an elegant silhouette with a long hood and large cut-outs of wheel arches, a beautiful stern with graceful lanterns and two "curly" exhaust pipes - from any angle the car fascinates with its athletic and balanced outlines.

The overall length of the compact roadster is 4133 mm long, the width reaches 1810 mm, and the height does not exceed 1301 mm. The center distance "extends" at the two-door to 2430 mm, and its ground clearance is equal to 119 mm.

In the equipped form, the weight of the "German" ranges from 1435 to 1605 kg (depending on the version).

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz SLC-class looks nice, soundly and moderately prestigious, but the overall impression is slightly spoiled by the 7-inch display of the multimedia complex, located asymmetrically relative to the center console, and the modest-looking audio control unit.

The sportiness in the decoration of the car is extolled by the devices placed in deep "wells" with scarlet arrows, which at rest look straight down, and the embossed steering wheel with the rim cut at the bottom, and an analog clock at the top of the dashboard gives it a bit of elegance.

Inside, the roadster boasts almost perfect ergonomics and premium finishing materials (pliable plastics, genuine leather, aluminum).

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz SLC has a strictly two-seater layout: it is equipped with comfortable seats, hospitable to people of any size, with integrated head restraints, moderately soft filling and a developed profile with widely spaced lateral support rollers.

The two-door trunk demonstrates a well-thought-out organization and good volume (adjusted for class): with the top up, it holds 335 liters of luggage, and with the roof folded down - 225 liters.

Already in the "base" the underground niche of the car is occupied by a small-sized "spare wheel" and the necessary tool.

It is worth noting that the two-piece roof transforms in just 20 seconds, and this process can be carried out at speeds up to 40 km / h.

In the Russian market for the Mercedes-Benz SLC-class, there are two petrol modifications, which are equipped exclusively with a 9-band "automatic" and a rear-wheel drive transmission:

  • Under the hood SLC200 contains an in-line four-cylinder engine of the M271 series with a displacement of 2.0 liters, made entirely of aluminum, with a turbocharger, direct fuel supply, variable valve timing and 16-valve timing, producing 184 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 300 Nm peak torque at 1200 -4000 rpm.
  • For SLC300 the same engine is offered, but "pumped" to 245 hp. at 5500 rpm and 370 Nm of torque at 1300-4000 rpm.

The car rushes to conquer the second "hundred" after 5.8-6.9 seconds, and is extremely capable of gaining 237-250 km / h.

In the combined cycle of movement, the two-door consumes from 6.1 to 6.2 liters of fuel, depending on the version.

At the heart of the Mercedes-Benz SLC is an upgraded rear-wheel drive "bogie" of the 2004 model ("R171") with a longitudinally mounted engine and body, in the power structure of which high-strength grades of steel are widely used. The roadster's front fenders and bonnet are made of aluminum, while the retractable roof uses composite materials.

At the front, the car is equipped with an independent "walker" type MacPherson, and at the rear - a multi-link architecture (standard - with coil springs and lateral stabilizers). An adaptive chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers is available as an option.

The double-door rack and pinion steering complex is equipped with a variable capacity hydraulic booster and a variable tooth pitch on the rack, and its braking system is formed by disc devices on all wheels (ventilated on the front axle) with ABS, EBD and other electronics.

In the Russian market, the Mercedes-Benz SLC200 at the end of 2017 is offered at a price of 2,990,000 rubles, and the SLC300 - from 3,450,000 rubles.

In the basic configuration, the roadster boasts: six airbags, ABS, ESP, EBD, air conditioning, 16-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, electric adjustments and memory, light and rain sensors, bi-xenon headlights, a multimedia complex, an audio system, sensors light and rain and a bunch of other "goodies".
